Intern Explores Agronomy

Darian Turner is from St. Louis. Missouri and is currently attending Alabama A&M University. Turner is working with Madan Bhattacharyya, an agronomy professor, and Sivakuma Swaminathan, an assistant agronomy scientist, researching the sudden death syndrome of soybeans. Turnery says preparing infected soil beds as well as planting the soybean seeds has been interesting. Turner has plans to pursue a career related to epidemiology or microbiology after graduating in 2019.

If you could have one superpower related to science, what would it be?
“A cell whisperer.”

What words of advice do you have for someone who has a passion for science?
“Get experience early and apply to all of the internships you can.”

Who is your role model and why?
“My father because he is a hard worker and never stops learning.”

Where do you wish to travel?
“Paris.”

What do you like most about Ames?
“Campustown and how everything is within walking distance.”
