Watch this video about Laura Meany's decision to return to the family farm.
Meany grew up working on a farm that has been in her family since the Civil War. This fall, after her father Mark unexpectedly died, she decided to graduate early to partner with her mother, Lyn, and eventually take over the family farm near Rose Creek, Minnesota.
Meany is graduating with a double major in international agriculture and public service and administration in agriculture. She's currently finishing up an internship with the Iowa Farm Bureau and is one of the organizers for an upcoming Young Farmer Conference to be held Jan. 27-28 in Des Moines.
