Student Illustration Selected for Journal of Animal Science Cover

Marley Dobyns’ illustration of a skeletal muscle is being featured on the January cover of the Journal of Animal Science.

The illustration was selected by the editor-in-chief to represent a collection of papers summarizing a symposium on muscle biology.

The illustration is one of two featured in, “The Science of Animal Growth and Meat Technology,” a book written by Iowa State University animal scientists David Topel, Dennis Marple, Steven Lonergan and F.C. Parrish Jr.

Dobyns is a senior in animal science with a minor in biological and pre-medical illustration. Her mother is an art teacher, which she says is the basis for her interest in art and illustration. She says illustrating real objects fits her personality and attention to detail.

Illustrating is just one of Dobyns' career goals. She's planning to attend veterinary school after graduation in May. As an undergraduate she has been a competitive diver on the Iowa State Swimming and Diving team since 2009.
