Iowa Beta Chapter – Gamma Sigma Delta  The Honor Society of Agriculture

Membership Information

The broad purpose of Gamma Sigma Delta is to encourage advancements, improvements and achievements in all areas of agriculture and related sciences. The specific objectives of Gamma Sigma Delta are:

  1. To encourage high standards of scholarship and leadership in all branches of agricultural science and education;
  2. To encourage high-quality achievement, professional ethics, and devotion to service among those working in agriculture; and
  3. To render service that will benefit agriculture and promote a better understanding of the agricultural sector by the general public.

To be eligible for induction into Gamma Sigma Delta, persons must be of high scholarship, worthy character and high achievement. In addition, the following criteria must be met for membership in the following categories:

  • Graduate Students
    1. Must have completed at least 14 credits each semester in the Graduate College of Iowa State University;
    2. Must have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale), excluding research/thesis credits.
  • Undergraduate Students
    1. Must have earned an all-college average grade point average of at least 3,0 (on a 4.0 scale), including all credits transferred to Iowa State University;
    2. Must rank in the top 15% of the class in their respective college;
    3. Must have attended Iowa State University for at least two academic semesters at the time of election;
    4. Must show high scholarship and evidence of high moral character.
