Dean's Message

This is an exciting time in agriculture and life sciences.

And it’s an exciting time to be part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Our College is one of the best schools of agriculture and life sciences in the world. Our students feel at home here and, with the help of excellent faculty mentors, become outstanding leaders on campus, in clubs and organizations. The preparation our students receive not only makes them leaders in their chosen fields, but also in society.

Students are our number-one priority. We support them with more than $3 million in scholarships each year. They have made our college the third largest in the country with enrollment nearly doubling since 2000, to more than 4,600. And they are sought after by employers, with a placement rate of almost 98 percent.

Our faculty and staff deliver research and extension programs that address Iowa’s needs and global challenges, providing innovative and science-based information needed to make decisions for the future.

I am honored by the overwhelming support we receive from College friends and alumni. They are passionate about our mission, success and continued growth for the future of Iowa. They have embraced our priorities — in global impact, biosciences, sustainability, student and faculty enrichment, agricultural entrepreneurship and agricultural business and innovative animal agriculture facilities — in the “Forever True, For Iowa State” fundraising campaign that will help us ensure we continue to provide the highest quality education and to address the issues our state and our world are facing.

Our College has recorded more than 160 years of excellence in agricultural research, education and extension. As we build on that legacy, we continue to build on our traditional strengths and push to new, exciting opportunities.

Thank you for your support.

Joe Colletti,
Interim Endowed Dean of Agriculture and Life Sciences
